“I believe they have the necessary services and support to give to the victims. All the staff that work there are very responsible, friendly, but above all they take their work very seriously. Personally, I will be very grateful for all the support you gave me. Now I feel more sure of myself and am willing to move on with my family.”

Think you might be in an unhealthy or abusive relationship?

There are several behaviors to look out for.

Does your partner…

  • Intentionally insult you or put you down?
  • Tell you you’re stupid or worthless?
  • Tell you that no one else would ever want or put up with you?
  • Purposefully embarrasses you in public or in front of others?
  • Look at you or act in ways that intimidate or scare you?
  • Demand to know where you are at all times or ask for proof?
  • Constantly accuse you of cheating?
  • Follow you places or harass you?
  • Control who you can talk to or see?
  • Guilt you about spending time with friends or family instead of them?
  • Stop you from seeing or refuse to let you see friends or family?
  • Make all the decisions?
  • Put you on an allowance?
  • Prevent you from getting a job, cause problems to get you fired, or prevent you from keeping a job?
  • Take your paycheck or Social Security?
  • Tell you you’re a bad parent, or threaten to take away or hurt your children?
  • Threaten to “out” you to family, friends, or co-workers?
  • Threaten to turn you into ICE or Border Patrol?
  • Keep or hide your travel documents, visas, passports, or green cards?
  • Act like the abuse/their behavior is no big deal?
  • Tell you you’re making up the abuse or incorrectly remembering it?
  • Blame you for the abuse?
  • Destroy your property or things?
  • Explode into a rage and assault you physically or sexually?
  • Coerce or force you to do sexual things you’re not comfortable with or that you don’t want to do?
  • Threaten, hurt, or kill your pets?
  • Intimidate you with guns, knives, or weapons?
  • Choke, punch, slap, kick, shove, or otherwise hurt you?
  • Threaten to commit suicide?
  • Threaten to kill you?
